Authenticated original copperplate engraving of "Bacchus as a child given by Mercury to the care of the Nymphs", an after Carlo Maratti engraved and printed by Andre Procaccini between 1690 and 1710. A magical, mythical scene involving goat-legged Pan, water deities lounging in river, even the heavens -- all conspiring to keep Bacchus out of the hands of Juno, Jupiter's jealous, scorned wife. In excellent condition, fully authenticated, 21 x 15" total on laid paper. Only a handful of these originals remain today and most of those hang in museums.
