Porter Cable emergency gasoline-powered generator. 5250 watts continuous, 6500 watts surge. About 20 years old, but has less than 10 hours run time. Only used during extended power outages. Stored dry at all times, which means no gasoline in either the tank or the carburetor, but with oil in the engine. Stored in the garage during the Spring to Fall and in a weather-proof generator shed outdoors during the winter (4 months). Generator operates inside the shed with inlet air grills on one side, an outlet air fan with louvers on the other side, and the generator exhaust exiting from a separate outlet in the front door of the shed. During an extended power outage, just fill the gasoline tank, open the gasoline shut-off valve, plug in your extension cord and pull the start rope. Per the operating manual, do not apply any load on the extension cord for 5 minutes to allow the unit to stabilize.
The shed provides fairly good sound suppression, so the noise shouldn't bother your neighbors. The shed has two wheels and two handles so it can be moved on a paved surface quite easily, even with the generator inside. I had to move the shed over a lawn and up a few stairs onto my deck for winter storage, so I moved the shed and generator separately to make the move easier. The generator has two 120 volt outlets, one 240 volt outlet and built-in circuit breakers.
