Romantic Queen High Pencil Post Canopy Bed with Dover Heart Headboard, canopy finials, and 2 matching sets of steps.
We purchased 2 of these beds for 2 of our best rooms in a Greek Revival farmhouse B&B we were restoring, in the mid-Hudson Valley. After closing the B&B years later, one bed was sold to a friend, leaving just this one remaining.
The style is a reproduction of an antique high pencil post canopy bed. The Dover heart headboard is a beautiful feature, not usually seen in canopy beds. There is a small plaque on the reverse of the headboard with the name of our B&B.
The wood, to the best of our memory, is pine, or other softwood, which we stained a warm maple or pecan color. The steps do match – the light was only coming from the right side.
By high, the (11.5”) mattress sits (34.5”) off the floor.
As our ceilings are not 8’ high, I needed to use bolts to secure the canopy fabric to the holes in the upright posts. A normal height ceiling will allow for using the finials, either with a canopy or without – your choice!
