I purchased it new in 1998 when I and all the other kids in the neighborhood had one. Unlike everyone else I still have mine 28 years later. Now it’s your chance to own this piece of history. I grew up with dirt bikes, ATVs, mopeds, and more. I got a beat up hand me down 1989 KX80 that needed a lot of work at the same time as the pocket bike. It came with a lame weed whacker engine like the rest of them. I thought how cool it would be to have that KX80 engine in that pocket bike! My teenaged friend agreed. So I did the right thing and cut them both apart and created what you see today. Many years went by until the COVID lockdown, when I finally had time to fully rebuild the engine and final get it working. New crank, cylinder re-sleeve and factory piston, bearings, seals, gaskets… This year was finish the electrical and fine tuning.
This is what I consider “Functional Art”. Yes it works, can be ridden and is fully serviceable. It is not street legal but it does go great on the road. Not intended for daily commuting. It has been displayed in my living room for the past few years.
That being said it is a 1998 “X1” china Pocket bike plastics and top frame. 1989 liquid cooled KX80 6-Speed engine and lower frame with shortened swing arm. Full stock kidney expansion pipe fitted to a KTM “muffler”. Custom fitted Carbon-Kevlar gas tank to accommodate the exhaust. Trail Tech gauge with Speed, RPM, Ambient temp, Coolant temp and backlight. Functioning head lights and marker lights, “tail light”. Some scuffs and scratches (see in photos) great condition for nearly 30 years old. Fully serviced. New fluids. Shocks, case, brake fluid flush Dot4 front and rear. Evans waterless coolant so it can sit unused without destroying everything till next rip around. I have always run it on 100LL Avgas with Yamalube 2R and a little Ringfree for good measure. How fast does it go? I don’t know but the picture of max speed was the top end of 5th. I don’t need to know. Thanks for looking. Justin
Yes it is still available!
Serious inquires only.
