This is not a racist or bigoted issue. This is a tribute to Jocko Graves who was George Washington's groomsman and who
wanted to participate in the fight against the British. Washington could not let a 14 year old go to battle so he gave the youngster a lantern and had him tend the horses while they crossed the Trenton river that night. The boy froze to death guarding the horses, yet the lantern was still lit so Washington knew where to return after the battle. Washington was so touched by Jocko's faithfullness (Google "The Faithful Groomsman" or Jocko Graves for the complete story.) that he had several statues struck of young Jocko. During the Civil War, if one of these statues was in someone's front yard, an escaped slave knew he could go to that house for sanctuary and passage. Everyone rode horses in those days so they would tie up their horse to Jocko's extended arm. This was the unfortunate beginning of the "Lawn Jockey" if you'll notice, he's not dressed as a jockey and he's not made of cement. He is cast from iron. If you collect Black Memoribillia, this would be an excellent addition to your collection. Promise you'll tell the story of Jocko.
